**Winner of the prestigious RONE Award for best New Adult fiction**

He’s no girl’s happily ever after. Yet

Jori Virtanen learned the devastating power of beauty and betrayal at fifteen, shattering his family and turning him into a reckless playboy model. When his world is attacked again, this time by modern-day pirates, he's thrust into a life-altering odyssey of recovery and soul-searching. As he seeks sanctuary and a new identity as an artist, he grapples with guilt, isolation, and the deep emotional scars that go far beyond his physical disfigurement.

Enter Olivia Howard, an ethically driven talk-show host. She’s put off by Jori’s bad-boy reputation but intrigued after hearing about a little-known act of heroism, especially when she finds he has just survived a horrific pirate attack. When he retreats from the public eye, Olivia’s quest to understand the man behind the scar intensifies.

Can she help a man—who once reveled in his physical beauty while hiding an inner beast—find love and the beauty within his soul? Or will he remain trapped in the scars of his past?

Jori was a playboy and didn’t consider how his love them and leave them actions affected the women he was with until the pirate attack and destruction to his face which resulted in the end of his modeling career. He was a hero defending Elle against the pirates, but he didn’t want the attention that came from it and he still slipped back into his old ways at times in this book. The loss of his modeling career forced him to focus on his art, which was his first love and his experiences made it deeper and more meaningful. It is revealed in the book why he treated women the way he did previously. Olivia is a tough, but compassionate talk show host, who wants to use her influence for good rather than just to boost ratings. Jori and Olivia become closer through their online interactions, but he resists going on her show to talk about his experience with the pirates. This book discusses and follows up on characters and experiences in A Change of Plans and it is helpful to read that book first, but not necessary to understand the story.

In the Audible version, the narrator kept me interested in the story and did a great job with voice changes and emotional inflections in the right places.

This book occurs much during the same time period as the first book. It was great to hear what was going on during this time from another's pov, in this case, Jori. Definitely read the first book in the series first to get the full picture of what these characters have been through.

This is a story of growth and healing. Jori does an incredible amount of growing over the course of the book. It seemed that his growth got a kick start from his group of new found friends on the cruise that loved him for himself and wanted him to be his best self. He didn't get that support from his family but these friends became family and he began to thrive. I loved the new and improved Jori but I sure hated the beast side of him. I'm so glad he got to make the changes in his life to allow himself to be happy, even as he helped others be happy too.

The romance in this story is definitely a slow burn. It sometimes felt like too slow. I think the story stalled a little in the middle but then picked up again.

I listened to the audio version of this book (free on YouTube) and I really liked the narrator. He did a great job. I enjoyed listening to this book and look forward to the next one.

Potential triggers: memory of a child predator, rejected by family, placenta previa trauma,

Sex: off page. Inner dialogue of past behavior
Language: Swearing stated but not particular words written out
    Violence: flashbacks

I really like the way this author has written this series. There's a basic story and then you get to see what happens to each of the characters during the same time period. It's kind of fun that you get to not only see the same events through each of the different eyes, but you also get to see the other things that happen to the characters.

Jori was such a complicated character. During their trip he dealt with the pirates in such a way that people deemed him a hero, but he feels like anything but inside. Some things happened in his life that robbed him of...well, really himself. And this book is kind of about how he gets back to himself and is able to let go of the past and forgive himself.

I really liked the way he cared for his sweet land lady, Anna, in this book. You could tell that she became the family that pretty much gave up on Jori. I loved the way he was able to care for her when she needed it most.

I liked that this one is a redemption story, but there's a touch of love story to it as well.

This was a great book that I enjoyed reading! Can't wait to read more of the Safe Harbour series to see what some of the other points of views are like.

This is a book that I will come back to over and over. I love everything about it. I have to admit, I read this book before "A Change of Plans" and I'm glad I did. I don't know that I would have stayed with the series if I had read the first book first. Though reading this one first did provide list of spoilers for the first book, I think I enjoyed reading the first book more for having read this one.

This book is centered around Jori, a Finnish immigrant (when he was 10) who is a playboy model taking a break on a cruise and hoping to practice his art to change careers and make the jump to artist. He's on an excursion that is hijacked by pirates and he's injured while fighting them off. It leaves him with a pretty nasty scar and he has to change jobs. The book is his story of healing, not only from the pirate attack bust also from his past. The romance is a bit secondary in my opinion, but it is there.

The book is clean, though there are references to sex since he is a playboy in the beginning. There are references to swearing, though I don't remember them being written out. This is not a "church book."

You would enjoy this story, more, if you read book 1 in the series, " A Change of Plans", first. It gives a very indepth understanding of the characters and their relationships with each other.
This book does retrace some of the story, but from Jori's point of view, and then carries on as the repercussions of the events affect his life and friendships.
Jori, the male model, who's world is now marred by a facial scar that sends most people reeling. However, Jori had already started a different life on board the cruise, where his old "love them and leave them" ways were challenged by Elle and Lyn's want of friendship without the need of sexual encounters.
Yes, this story is a wonderful and enjoyable experience.

I have loved this whole series so far and really appreciate the way it has been written. The story is heart rending but also full of love and caring. For a group on a cruise who have not know each other long, the connections were fast but believable too. Yori, a model, has been disfigured by the pirates and this is his story of change, Close friendship with the survivors, and desperation at the loss of friends he has only recently met.
It encompasses the previous stories' details and tells what was, or could not be, included in those. I love the interactions between Yori and Olivia, Beast and SunDancer.
You really need to read them in order but each one does have a beginning and ending.
Now I will read Marc's story which appears to be a continuation of the series.

Jori is a hero, he has been through quite a bit of trouble and what a story.
Olivia does reports on human interest stories. She wants to help people.
She has troubles of her own.

There is just to much to summarise with this book.
In this story you watch Jori grow as an adult. His life changes. His near death experience. Even his career changed. All for the better.

I enjoyed the book. It’s a full novel and there are no cliffhangers.
    My disclaimer...
Any book or novels I leave reviews on are not dependent on the book/novel review author’s opinion. No one influenced my voluntary review for any of the books or novels I read, they are my own opinions
